I’m going to be talking to genealogists about Using Macs at Jamboree. There are new apps and tips and tricks for my presentation, “Easy as Apple Pie: Using Macs and iPads for Genealogy,” on Saturday at 10 a.m. at Jamboree. The only problem is we have just an hour together and the handout can only do so much, so I’ll put some information up here on the blog as well.

We’re going to cover:

  • Family Tree Software for iMacs & MacBooks
  • Mobile Genealogy Apps for iPads & iPhones
  • Mac Photo Editor Software
  • Backups on Macs for Data Security
  • Tips and Tricks for Mac, iPads, and iPhones

And of course there’s too much cool stuff for even a hour or some blog posts, so I’ve put together a new Sassy Jane Genealogy Guide, Using Macs and iPads for Genealogy.

Lots of great apps come installed on your iPad or iPhone with iOS 6:

  • Calculator (iPhone)
  • Safari Browser
  • Voice Memos
  • Camera
  • FaceTime
  • Reminders
  • iBooks
  • Siri (iPhone)
  • Apple Maps

And then there are apps that do a better job or just are research basics you’d always want to have with you, like these:

And beyond that, there are some very cool productivity and utility apps that can actually reduce the need for some apps on your iPad or iPhone. I’ll share a few at Jamboree and several more are available in the guide.
