California Family History Expo Starts Today!

I’m setting up this entry for questions or comments on my first session today at the California Family History Expo entitled “Organize Your Genealogical Research.”

In the session, I talk about the strategies archivists use to process collections to help you organize your genealogical research, including sharing the Top Ten Things Archivists Can Teach Us about organizing.

Some of what I have to say may be contrary to conventional organizing wisdom, so feel free to respond using the comment button at the bottom of this entry.

    Hi Nancy,

I just attended your seminar on Friday morning at the Pleasanton Expo about organizing my research and found it very very helpful. Thank you so much! You are a well informed speaker and I gained much from your presentation.

My only two problems are that: 1)there weren’t enough handouts so I didn’t get one, and 2)I couldn’t take notes fast enough to write down your power point method of creating computer files, sub-files, and sub-sub-files.

Is there any way I might have a copy of your power point presentation?

I looked all through the Expo’s CD Syllabus and couldn’t find the information I’m looking for.

Thanks bunches and I’m hoping you’ll be able to help me.

    Hi Kyle:

The blue bag you got when you registered has a CD with handouts for all the sessions. If you still need the handout sent to you directly, please let me know.

I didn’t realize when I started the session on Friday that hard copies of the handout were not available or I would have mentioned the CD to everybody.

    Hi NAncy,

    Thank you for your response.

Actually, I can’t seem to find what I’m looking for in your session outline on the CD, or anywhere else.

Would it be possible for you to send to me the taxonomy framework you’ve set up to store your files as a database? This is what I’m hoping to find. You should us this as part of your power point presentation.

    Thank you so much,
    Kyle McDaniel

Kyle and others who have asked:

I’m working on a short ebook that will provide the depth needed to answer the questions I can’t cover in an hour’s presentation. I should have it available by mid-November. I’ll announce it on the blog.
