As seen in the main image above, Library Extension in the Chrome or Firefox browser shows you book and e-book availability at your local library. And it seamlessly lets you click to your local library to reserve a book or check it out.
Using Library Extension for Genealogy
In the example seen below, I searched for a copy of Inheritance, Dani Shapiro’s brilliant non-fiction book about her DNA results. It’s $12.99 for a Kindle edition, $15.18 for hardcover, or using my local library’s cooperative, I can reserve a hardcover, audio book, or eBook, for free, after a wait.
This book is a beautifully written memoir and a must-read, in my opinion.

Do they do university and college libraries or just local public libraries?
Hi Steve – I think all kinds of libraries, as long as they agree to participate. You can find libraries in their system here:

If the library you need isn’t listed, you can file a request with that library that they participate in Library Extension. I see that my local public library consortium is available, plus archive.org. But I don’t see my local university library. Library Extension may be pulling registration data to show you available libraries? Not sure.
